Your truck is not just a vehicle; it is an investment of $80,000 to $180,000 and the engine of your economy. When an accident, theft or natural disaster occurs, the goal is not only to repair the metal, but to keep your business from taking on debt that compromises its future. We design clear Physical Damage policies, adjusted to the real value of your equipment and backed by the best carriers in the country.

Real stories: what nobody tells you until you have an incident

This is what owner-operators share on freight forums when their truck was damaged and the insurance did not respond as expected.

01

Deductibles that freeze your cash flow

A high deductible lowers your monthly premium, but it can become a trap if you do not have the cash on hand at the time of a claim. At Oakfort, we analyze your real liquidity to set a balanced deductible. We help you find the exact point where you save on your premium without putting your operation at risk if you have a setback.

02

Claims that take weeks or months

During that time, the truck is inoperable. Zero income while you pay for a rental you had not budgeted for. Some insurers drag out the adjustment process to close the claim in the cheapest way for them, not the fastest for you. When the insurer fights every claim or takes months to pay, coverage stops being protection and becomes a liability. The owner-operator pays to have backup at the worst moment; and if the backup does not show up, operating costs skyrocket.

03

"Total loss" on the second claim

If you have had two claims, the insurer can consider your truck a total loss and apply the "total loss" to the second one. Coverage is reduced, premiums go up, and the business gets complicated. Many do not know this practice exists until it happens to them.

04

Shops and parts: control over your work tool

Many carriers discover too late that their policy forces them to repair the truck wherever the insurer decides, using generic parts and lengthening turnaround times. We explain your contract conditions straight to your face. We look for options that give you flexibility and a voice in the repair process, because we know every day in the shop is a day without income.

05

The invisible impact of claims on your rates

A claim — even if it was not your fault — can change how the system evaluates your operational risk at future renewals. At Oakfort, we are not simple insurance clerks; we audit your history and advise you on when it makes sense to trigger the policy and how to defend your safety record so your rates do not spike unexpectedly.

06

Coverage gaps: you do not know what your policy covers until you have a claim

The exclusions are in the fine print nobody reads. There was an endorsement you would have bought, but you did not know it existed. Or a coverage you thought included something, but it was excluded. You find out when it is already too late.

Real questions about Physical Damage

What is the right deductible for my operation?

It depends entirely on your available financial cushion. A $3,000 or $5,000 deductible noticeably reduces the annual premium cost, but you must be sure you can pay it out of pocket if an accident occurs. If you prefer maximum peace of mind and your cash flow is tight, structuring a $1,000 deductible is the safest option. At Oakfort we evaluate your numbers with you to make the best decision.

How does Rental Reimbursement work for commercial trucks?

If your truck suffers a covered loss and must spend weeks in the shop, this endorsement covers the cost of renting an equivalent replacement truck. This keeps you from losing your logistics contracts or regular clients while you recover your unit.

Does the insurance give me a replacement truck while they repair mine?

Not automatically. That is covered by Rental Reimbursement if you included it in the policy. It is a cash reimbursement, not a physical truck. If you need something to keep operating, you have to manage it in parallel with the claim. We recommend discussing this with your agent before the incident happens.

What happens if I have more than one claim in the same policy year?

Financially, each claim is evaluated independently and applies its own individual deductible. Operationally, accumulating multiple claims in a short period raises your risk profile with underwriters, which could lead to higher renewal rates or non-renewal of the policy at expiry.

Does Physical Damage cover me if I hit a friend?

Yes, the coverage applies no matter who the other party is. But if the accident was your fault and there is damage to third parties, that is covered by Primary Auto Liability. Physical Damage is for your truck and trailer, not the other vehicle or its cargo.

How much does Physical Damage cost per year?

It depends on many factors: truck value, year, usage, location, claims history, chosen deductible. In Florida, a full program (liability + physical + cargo + GL) can cost $14K–$28K per unit per year. Physical damage alone typically falls in the $3K–$8K range, depending on the equipment and profile.
